In November 2018, I embarked on an unforgettable journey that took me on a layover tour in the enchanting island of Taiwan, as I traveled from New York to the Philippines. As a Filipino passport holder, I was delighted to know that I had the privilege to step out of Taipei's bustling airport and immerse myself in the rich culture and beauty of this incredible country. With my passport in hand, I confidently approached the immigration officer, who warmly welcomed me with a smile that reflected the renowned hospitality of Taiwan. As I stepped out into the vibrant atmosphere, I was greeted by my friendly tour guide, whom I had conveniently booked through Viator, eagerly waiting to introduce me to the wonders of Taiwan.

As soon as I exited the airport, I was warmly greeted by my tour operator, a friendly young local who drove a comfortable van. Before embarking on our journey, he introduced me to some fascinating facts about Taipei and generously provided me with a phone to use during the tour. The 6-hour itinerary was perfectly tailored to fit my schedule, allowing me to make the most of my time before catching my next flight back home to the Philippines. To my delight, we had the entire van to ourselves, which made the experience feel even more like an exclusive, private tour.
The tour began with a scenic drive towards the heart of Taipei, allowing me to take in the city's
vibrant atmosphere. Our first stop was the Dalongdong Baoan Temple, a stunning example of Taiwanese folk religion architecture, featuring intricate carvings, colorful paintings, and beautifully adorned halls dedicated to various gods.
Next, we visited the iconic Grand Hotel,
an impressive landmark that showcases traditional Chinese palace-style architecture, complete with striking red columns and golden roof tiles.
Our journey continued to the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall and Liberty Square, where I marveled at the vast plaza, beautiful gardens, and magnificent monuments dedicated to the former leader.
Afterwards, we headed to Yongkang Street to indulge in the delectable dim sum they're famous for, an
d I must say, it was the best dim sum I've ever tasted! I also enjoyed sampling their local beer, which perfectly complemented the meal.
With a full belly, we made our way to Ximen to shop for souvenirs, where I purchased boxes of traditional rice cakes to share with my friends and family. From there, we visited Taipei 101, the city's most iconic skyscraper. Standing at an impressive 509 meters, Taipei 101 boasts an elegant design that combines modern engineering with traditional Asian aesthetics.
After snapping a mandatory photo with the towering structure, we embarked on a hike along the Elephant Mountain Trail. From the top, I was rewarded with breathtaking views of Taipei's skyline, featuring the unmistakable silhouette of Taipei 101 amidst the cityscape.
Our final stop was the Taipei Zoo, where I encountered a diverse array of animals, including the captivating panda and other exotic species I had never seen before. As the afternoon drew to a close, we made our way back to the airport, my heart filled with unforgettable memories from my whirlwind tour of this mesmerizing city.
As I reflect on my incredible layover tour in Taipei, I am filled with admiration for this remarkable city. From its rich cultural heritage and stunning architecture to its mouthwatering cuisine and warm, hospitable locals, Taipei truly has something for everyone. My short visit left me longing for more, and I am certain that anyone who experiences this captivating city will feel the same irresistible pull. I wholeheartedly encourage to consider Taiwan as their next travel destination. Whether it's a quick stopover or an extended stay, the unforgettable memories you'll make in Taipei will surely leave you yearning for more. So, pack your bags and embark on your own Taiwanese adventure - you won't be disappointed!
