Canada Travel:Banff National Park

Updated: Aug 17, 2023

Nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Lake Louise is a destination that captivates visitors with its awe-inspiring natural beauty. The crystal-clear, turquoise waters of the lake are surrounded by soaring mountain peaks, thick pine forests, and picturesque glaciers. In the winter, the landscape is transformed into a glittering wonderland, with snow-covered trees, frozen waterfalls, and endless opportunities for outdoor adventure. Whether you're a seasoned skier or simply seeking a peaceful escape in nature, Lake Louise offers an unforgettable experience that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and inspired.

As someone who had never experienced winter before, my visit to Lake Louise in January 2019 was nothing short of enchanting. The sight of snowflakes falling gently from the sky, the crispness of the air, and the sound of snow crunching under my feet were all new and exhilarating sensations. Despite the cold, I felt a sense of warmth and wonder as I explored this magical winter wonderland.

My journey to Lake Louise began with a long-haul flight from the Philippines to Calgary, followed by a bus ride to Banff, and finally a taxi to my hotel in Lake Louise. As I stepped out of the taxi, I was greeted by a world blanketed in snow, the air biting with an icy chill. It was my first time ever experiencing snow, and as I reached down to touch it, I felt a sharp sting, as if a thousand needles were pinching my skin. Despite the initial shock, I was exhilarated by the sensation and the beauty of the snow-covered landscape. My hotel, a charming cabin in the heart of the wilderness, provided a cozy refuge from the cold and warm blankets to snuggle under. As I drifted off to sleep that night, I felt grateful for the opportunity to explore this winter wonderland and for the warm shelter that awaited me.

I stayed at the Lake Louise Inn, a cozy and comfortable hotel that provided the perfect base for my explorations of the surrounding wilderness. The hotel featured a rustic and welcoming ambiance, with warm wood accents and comfortable furnishings that made me feel right at home. The cabin-style rooms were spacious and well-appointed, with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay, including a fireplace, coffee maker, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The hotel also boasted a range of onsite dining options, including a pub, restaurant, and coffee shop, where I could enjoy delicious food and drinks after a long day of adventure. The staff were friendly and attentive, always willing to offer tips and recommendations for exploring the local area. Overall, my stay at the Lake Louise Inn was a highlight of my winter adventure, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy and comfortable home away from home in the heart of the Canadian Rockies.

The following day was a bright and sunny one, and I was thrilled to have booked a snowshoeing adventure with Great Divide Nature Interpretation. As a first-time snowshoer, I was excited to experience walking on the snow, but the tour offered much more than that. We learned to observe and interpret the tracks of wild animals that live in the area, discovering tracks from lynx and squirrels, among others. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about wildlife, and it was an engaging and enjoyable experience.

The landscape was simply breathtaking, with a river running alongside train tracks and the magnificent Rocky Mountains in the background. Despite wearing five layers of clothing and a mitten with a heat gel, I still felt the chill of the winter air. After the tour, I took some time to admire the winter

beauty of Lake Louise before heading to the iconic Fairmont hotel, where I enjoyed a draft beer to warm myself up by the fire. I then capped off my day with a delicious bison meat dinner at my hotel restaurant. It was the perfect way to end a day filled with adventure, discovery, and awe-inspiring natural beauty.

As my winter adventure in Lake Louise drew to a close, it was time to head back to Calgary. The journey was an adventure in itself, with a scenic road trip that allowed me to take in the stunning landscape one last time. The scenery was simply spectacular, with snow-capped mountains, frozen lakes, and thick forests passing by my window. When we reached Banff town, I was struck by the unique architecture of the buildings. Most of them were made of wood and resembled cozy log houses, creating a charming and rustic atmosphere. It felt like I was walking through a movie set, but I was grateful for the chance to experience this beautiful town in person. As we continued our journey, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the incredible winter adventure I had just experienced, and the memories that I would cherish for a lifetime.

As I headed to Toronto for my next adventure to Niagara, I couldn't help but feel a tinge of sadness that my time in Lake Louise had come to an end. The winter wonderland had left an indelible mark on me, and I knew that I would never forget the memories I had made. From my first snowshoeing experience and observing the tracks of wild animals to the breathtaking views of Lake Louise and the cozy cabin I had stayed in, it was a trip that I would always treasure. I made a promise to myself that I would come back in the summer to experience Lake Louise once again, in its full glory. For now, I looked forward to my next adventure, grateful for the chance to explore more of Canada's natural beauty.
