Exploring Belize in 4 Days: My Unforgettable Short Trip

Writer's picture: scottscott

As a Filipino passport holder, traveling to certain parts of the world comes with challenges, and Belize is no exception. A Philippine passport alone is not sufficient to enter this country; I needed a US travel visa. For those with the same goal as mine—to explore Central America—I highly advise securing a US travel visa, as it grants access to many destinations in this region. No matter what, get your US visa—it will open many travel opportunities.

Visiting Belize was the first stop of my month-long journey across Central America. This country captivated me with its vibrant culture, pristine beaches, and incredible wildlife. Here’s a recap of my experience, including my itinerary, activities, and helpful travel tips for those planning a similar trip.

  • Landed at Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport in the morning.

  • Reached my hotel at noon by taxi and headed straight to Bird's Isle Restaurant for lunch, trying some delicious local cuisine.

  • Passed by the historic St. Anglican Cathedral on the way and took a quick photo.

  • In the afternoon, visited key landmarks, including the Swing Bridge, the Belize Welcome Sign, and the Lighthouse.

  • Stopped by Battlefield Park to soak in the local atmosphere.

  • Had a snack at Old River Bar and Grill, a bustling spot right by the waterway.

  • Visited a local pharmacy, grocery store, and other local shops to buy necessary supplies.

  • Ended the day with a cold beer at a nearby restaurant, overlooking the busy canal of Belize City, enjoying the vibrant ambiance.

  • Walked from my hotel to San Pedro Belize Waterfront in the morning to sail to Caye Caulker with the ticket I had booked in advance.

  • Upon arrival, rented a bicycle from my hotel and headed to cross The Split by barge to explore the northern part of Caye Caulker

  • Biked until I reached Bliss Beach, where I spent a couple of hours enjoying the beautiful scenery.

  • Rode back and took a break at Refuge Beach before returning to cross The Split again.

  • Visited the Tarpon Nature Reserve—no entrance fee.

  • Enjoyed a couple of drinks and had a delicious barbecue along the coast.

  • In the evening, visited El Portal Tapas Bar to watch the sunset and later spent the night bar-hopping, soaking in the island’s lively nightlife.

  • Took a half-day tour that I had booked in advance and went to the rendezvous point.

  • The first stop of the snorkeling tour was a revisit to the Tarpon Nature Reserve, where I had the unique experience of feeding them by hand while on the boat. I also had the chance to feed birds as they flew overhead.

  • Went on an ocean snorkeling adventure, stopping at three different spots:

    • The first spot was a shallow area where we got used to our gear.

    • The second spot was deeper and featured a stunning underwater landscape; this was where we saw four dolphins swimming freely in their natural habitat.

    • The last snorkeling stop was a shallow area where we could walk, surrounded by friendly stingrays and ray sharks.

  • Sailed back to Belize City in the afternoon, reaching before dark.

  • In the morning, booked a taxi to San Pedro Belize Water Taxi, which was our rendezvous point for the bus to Flores, Guatemala.

  • Bought souvenirs at the water taxi terminal, grabbed some snacks, and had breakfast before departure.

  • Took the water taxi and met the group before setting off on the journey to Flores.

  • Conveniently located within walking distance to pharmacies, restaurants, a department store, and key landmarks.

  • Offers luggage storage, which was useful for my visit to Caye Caulker.

  • Food delivery is available, making meals more convenient.

  • Reached this hotel from the airport by booking a taxi in advance.

  • Conveniently located near the San Pedro Belize Express port; I could walk here upon arrival.

  • A convenience store and bike rental are available downstairs, making my stay even easier.
