I booked my journey from Flores to Antigua in advance through Guateco, which provided a seamless Guatemala travel experience.

  1. Hotel Pickup in Flores: A small shuttle picked me up from my hotel around 9pm and drove me to the bus terminal Transportes Fuente del Norte.

  2. Boarding the FDN Clase de Oro: After checking in at the terminal, I boarded the overnight sleeper bus, FDN Clase de Oro Traveling at night was convenient as it allowed me to rest during the journey.Tip,the inside the bus is too cold, bring a blanket.

  3. Arrival in Guatemala City: I reached the Fuente del Norte bus terminal in Zone 1 around 4-5 AM.

  4. Shuttle to Antigua: At sunrise, an Atitrans shuttle picked me up and transferred me directly to my hotel in Antigua.

  5. Communication and Support: Guateco offers WhatsApp support, making it easy to communicate any delays or changes. Their customer service is responsive and English-speaking, which made the process smooth.

Stepping into Antigua, Guatemala feels like traveling back in time. The town is laid out in a grid pattern, making it easy to navigate. Central Park (Parque Central) serves as the heart of the city, surrounded by iconic landmarks such as the Antigua Cathedral and the Palace of the Captains General.

Antigua offers:

  • Charming cafes, restaurants, and local markets

  • Colonial churches and convent ruins

  • Boutique shops and artisanal crafts

  • A range of language schools for Spanish learners

  • Accessible viewpoints, including Cerro de la Cruz for panoramic views

During my visit, I explored Antigua entirely on foot. Walking around allowed me to truly absorb the city's atmosphere. I visited the local market, hiked up to Cerro de la Cruz for breathtaking views, and simply roamed the streets, discovering hidden gems along the way.

Its small-town charm, combined with modern amenities, ensures a comfortable yet authentic experience for visitors.

One of the highlights of my trip was hiking Acatenango Volcano, an experience I highly recommend. I booked my hike through Viator, joining a group of fellow hikers for this extraordinary journey.

The hike to Acatenango’s summit is challenging yet incredibly rewarding. The panoramic views from the top, especially of the active Volcán de Fuego, make every step worth it. Camping overnight and witnessing the eruptions at sunrise was an unforgettable experience.

I plan to dedicate a separate blog to my Acatenango experience, sharing all the details of this incredible adventure in Guatemala.

After my unforgettable time in Antigua, it was time to continue my Central American journey. My next destination? Honduras, to visit the famous Mayan ruins of Copán.
